Welcome to the website of Kate Austin, writer of women’s fiction.
When I say I write women’s fiction, I’m using that term as a catch-all for many different things. On any given day, in any given year, I might be writing:
- a short story, a novel, a novella
- literary fiction
- mystery or suspense
- magic realism
but what all of these stories—whatever the length, whatever the genre—have in common is that they all reflect a woman’s journey through life.
One of the things I’ve realized over the years is that women come of age twice in their lives. The first time is when we become women in the first place, when we’re 14 or 18 or 22. The second time is more interesting to me and that’s the theme that runs through everything I write. You might call my books coming of age stories.
I love writing—whatever the trappings of the story I use to do it—about women finally becoming the women they were always meant to be, taking on the power they’ve always had but either didn’t realize it or were afraid to use it. I love writing about the way this knowledge changes their life and the way they see and react to the world around them.
So if this is the kind of story you like to read, take a look at the books page, check out my blog (see the link above), and my blog with the lovely Anna Leigh Keaton, that combines two of my favourite things: writing and eating (www.writingandeating.com), and enjoy!
P.S. If you’re interested in something a little bit spicier, check out the books on the Kate – After Dark page. Some of these books were published under the name of my erotica alter ego, Josee Renard, but I promise, they’re all me.
